Social Work
How can a Social Worker support me?
Our social workers are qualified to support the emotional, social and practical wellbeing of adults, their partners and families. They have expertise in counselling, adjustment to health and communication changes, and navigating services and funding systems.
This includes specialised skills in supporting adults who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) or who experience other communication challenges, working collaboratively with our audiology and speech pathology team.
They can assist with:
- coping with hearing loss or communication changes
- managing stress, worry, or low mood
- relationship and family communication difficulties
- life transitions, grief, and loss
- confidence and participation in work, study, and community life
- understanding and navigating NDIS, My Aged Care, and other funding systems
- linking with community supports, peer networks, and advocacy services.
Our social workers work alongside you, your significant others, and our audiology and speech pathology team to provide holistic, person-centred support.
Our social work and counselling services for adults are designed to support you and your family to live well with communication challenges, hearing loss, or other life stressors.
Supports are tailored to your goals and circumstances, and may include:
- individual counselling for adults
- joint sessions with significant others, family members, or people who support you
- support to have difficult conversations with family, employers, or services
- practical problem-solving around work, study, parenting, or daily routines
- support to prepare for appointments and advocate for your needs
- assistance to understand reports, funding options, and service plans
- connection with community groups, mental health supports, and peer support.
Services are offered in a safe, respectful environment where your experiences and preferences are central to planning.
Social workers can help you and your significant others make sense of changes, reduce stress, and build strategies that fit your life.
You or your family might benefit from social work and counselling support if you are:
- feeling overwhelmed by recent changes in hearing, communication, or health
- unsure how to talk with family or friends about your needs
- avoiding social situations, work, or hobbies because of communication worries
- feeling isolated, frustrated, or misunderstood
- experiencing conflict or tension at home related to communication or caring roles
- struggling to navigate services, paperwork, or funding systems.
Together, we explore what matters most to you, identify your strengths and develop practical steps to support your wellbeing, relationships, and participation in everyday life.
Please contact our clinical support team to discuss how our social workers can support you and your family.
