Manager of Speech Pathology

Hi! I’m Kim and have been working with Deaf/Hard of Hearing people of all ages for over 30 years. I started my journey as a Teacher of the Deaf in schools and as a travelling consultant in the country, city, TAFE and universities. Fifteen years ago, I did my masters in speech pathology at Flinders Uni. I was all set to work with adults only, but true to my nature, I saw the Deaf/Hard of Hearing signing/calling me to work with them and have been working mostly in this space ever since.

I have been lucky to build my skills in Auslan and am at Cert 3 level. I have done many of the units for AVT/LSL but never sat the exam. I have been in manager roles in schools and as a speech pathologist. I’ve also had fun travelling the countryside as a mobile sole trader.

I am absolutely passionate about language development and building everyone’s communication capacity – even my own! I never stop reading and searching for innovative evidence-based answers to my, my clients and families, and peers’ questions. I am an enthusiastic partner in sessions and know that play, no matter how old you are, is the best and safest way to learn.
Outside of work I am an empty nester with my beautiful partner Marcus. My son is all grown up and having his own family. The best bit is that now I am a not-so-quiet Grandma I am allowed to sing, dance and play at home as well as work. Hooray!
